BMW’s benchmark sport sedan, the M3, will quickly come in for a redesign.
2021 BMW M3 Spy Shots
A model for the next-generation model been found again, revealing several hints.
Referred to internally as the G80, the new M3 will sport a much larger track compared to the upgraded 2019 3-Series, from which it is derived. We can also see that the brake discs and calipers are large, and at the rear of the car sit a signature set of quad-exhaust pointers. We can also see a unique grille that looks a bit like the one on the just recently exposed Concept 4.
2021 BMW M3 Debut
A debut of the new M3 is expected to take place in early 2020, potentially at March’s Geneva International Motor Show. We must see the car reach display rooms later on in 2020 as a 2021 model.
2021 BMW M3 Engine
Under its hood will sit the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-6 code-named the S58 that debuted in the 2020 BMW X3 M and X4 M. A 6-speed manual transmission will be used, though maybe just on a standard variation of the M3 sporting a little less power than 8-speed automatic-equipped cars, and featuring rear-wheel drive only.
This standard variation, which might be dubbed an M3 Pure, is expected to have about 454 horsepower, whereas the automated model must have something closer to 473 hp. More powerful Competition, CS and CSL models are likewise in the pipeline. The present M3 has simply 425 hp in standard guise and 453 hp in the limited-edition CS model.
All-wheel drive will be a feature of the new M3, too. The system will be the rear-biased M xDrive configuration that debuted in the most recent M5. It has a function that enables the chauffeur to choose a rear-wheel-drive mode at the push of a button.
Regardless of the fitting of all-wheel drive, we hear the new M3 will be lighter than the present model, in some cases as much as 140 pounds lighter.
The M3 for decades has been the go-to alternative for the sharpest sport sedans and coupes on the market, though AMG and Cadillac’s respective C63 and ATS-V models have beat their Munich competitor in the last few years. It’s a situation we’re sure the M department will wish to rectify with its most recent M3.
